On August 30, 2013, Francisco Chavez arrived at Atlanta International Airport under the custody of U.S. Marshals Service. He was subsequently transferred to Miami, where he is currently being detained and is awaiting criminal prosecution. Chavez previously fled the United States, but was arrested on narcotics charges at the Barajas Airport in Spain. U.S. authorities worked with the Spanish Government to have him extradited to the United States to face health care charges stemming from his indictment.

In February 2011, Chavez was indicted on charges of Health Care Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft, and Criminal Forfeiture. Chavez is believed to have submitted more than $11 million in claims to Medicare for durable medical equipment that was never provided to Medicare beneficiaries.
