New Mouse Model Developed for Eosinophilic Esophagitis

A new NIAID-funded study reports on the first mouse model for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), an allergic inflammatory condition that is associated with food allergy. The study appears in the August 2013 issue of Nature Medicine.

The findings suggest that basophils and the TSLP cytokine are involved in disease progression, raising the possibility of new therapies for this chronic disease. This work was also supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
