The Department of Public Works Wants Residents to Use Pedestrian Trash Cans Correctly The Bureau of Solid Waste Installs Waste Disposal Signs on Public Litter Receptacles
BALTIMORE, MD (July 31, 2013) – The Department of Public Works Bureau of Solid Waste will be installing waste disposal signs on pedestrian litter receptacles throughout the City to promote their proper use. The signs support Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s message to “Clean up Baltimore.” The signs will remind residents that public trash cans should be used strictly for litter and that disposing household or business trash in them is strictly prohibited and could result in a $500 fine. Signs will be placed at major corridors and on cans that are being used improperly. All signs will be installed before the end of the summer. Residents are reminded to set out trash on their trash and recycling collection days and that only three 32 gallon trash cans are permitted for collection each week. All trash must be put in a trash can with a tight fitting lid. To reduce the amount of trash generated each week, residents are reminded to take full advantage of the City’s recycling program as the program does not limit the amount of recyclables that can be set out each week.
