Celebrating its Second Anniversary during

 NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK - October 6-12, 2013 !!!

Help spark interest in the Preventing Surgical Fires Initiative and promote actions to reduce the risk of risk of surgical fires.

Here are some ideas:

------   It's National Fire Prevention Week. Find out how to prevent surgical fires http://bit.ly/sFIRE (goesto www.fda.gov/PreventingSurgicalFires)

------   Only YOU can help prevent surgical fires. Get free prevention resources http://bit.ly/sFIRES (goes to the  initiatives "Resources and Tools" page www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/SafeUseInitiative/PreventingSurgicalFires/ucm272680.htm)

------   Have you ever seen a fire in the OR? About 600 fires occur each year. Here's how to prevent them - http://bit.ly.sFiRE (goes to the initiative's website, www.fda.gov/PreventingSurgicalFires

  • Mention surgical fires, the initiative and resources during a staff meeting
  • Consider doing inservice education on the subject of surgical fires and surgical fire risk assessment
  • Ask your facility or organization if it will allow a short paragraph about surgical fires or the initiative to be inserted in your newsletter or e-newsletter, or see if something can be posted on bulletin boards

Or develop your own ideas!!!  Feel free to use and further distribute any of the material on our website: www.fda.gov/preventingsurgicalfires

Working together, we can prevent surgical fires!!

Thank you,
The Preventing Surgical Fires Initiative Workgroup
